In one of the most moving announcements of the year, Fox News anchor Dana Perino and her husband Peter McMahon have confirmed they have officially adopted three children with Down syndrome — all siblings who were previously in long-term foster care and considered “unadoptable” due to their medical and emotional needs.
“They didn’t need pity,” Dana said during a heartfelt interview. “They needed a chance — and love without conditions.”
The Children’s Story
The three children — ages 3, 5, and 7 — were living in separate group homes across two states before Dana and Peter stepped in.
The siblings had reportedly been passed over in more than 15 adoption inquiries due to a combination of developmental challenges, speech delays, and specialized medical needs.
But for Dana and Peter, the decision was instant.
“The moment we saw their names together, it felt like they were already ours,” she said.
A Home Built for Healing
The couple has transformed their Wyoming property into a fully adaptive home:
-
Sensory-friendly rooms for each child
-
A therapy garden to support emotional bonding
-
On-site access to speech and occupational therapists
-
And — in Dana’s words — “a kitchen full of music, markers, and messy pancakes.”
She added:
“We didn’t save them. They’re saving us.”
A Nation’s Response
Fox News confirmed Dana will take extended leave from broadcasting to focus entirely on her new role as a full-time mother.
“It’s the most important broadcast I’ll ever live — and it won’t air on any network,” she said.
The news sparked a wave of public emotion, with hashtags like #PerinoFamilyOfFive, #AdoptionIsLove, and #DanaGivesHope trending across the country.
One viewer wrote:
“She spent years informing the nation — and now she’s inspiring it. This is the definition of heart.”
Another added:
“Three children who were forgotten now have a forever mom. God bless you, Dana and Peter.”
